DNM SEALCOATING CRACK SEAL*
As paved surfaces age and experience repeated vehicle traffic and exposure to the elements, cracks start to form. Once they begin the problems can multiply. For instance, cracks permit water to penetrate into the asphalt and result in potholes and crumbling areas. Our professional crack seal* services can resolve these common problems and extend the lifespan of a driveway or parking lot.
We apply cold or hot pour rubberized sealant to significantly reduce the risks of moisture damage and prevent more potholes from forming.
Many different kinds of cracks can occur on asphalt pavements.
The Crack Seal* methods we perform basically depends upon which type of crack we’re treating.
Some cracks can be related to vehicle traffic while other are the result of weather and temperature.
- Fatigue Cracks. Also known as alligator cracking – is typically the result of deterioration from a weakened subgrade, insufficient asphalt thickness or overloading.
- Block Cracks. These are basically a series of long, rectangular-shaped cracks on a paved surface. This kind of cracking usually covers wide areas and can even happen on driveways that do not see heavy vehicle traffic. Block cracks are often due to shrinkage of asphalt pavement resulting from hot/cold temperature swings.
- Edge Cracks. Edge cracks are lengthy cracks that tend to form within a few feet of the outer perimeters of a paved surface. They can be caused from insufficient support along the edges.
- Transverse Cracks. These develop perpendicular to a pavement’s centerline. They can also be caused from deterioration of asphalt layers. Transverse cracks are not necessarily due to vehicle traffic.
- Reflection Cracks. Reflection cracks typically form on top of joints or existing cracks in an overlay of a faded asphalt pavement. When aging pavement shifts it will often cause unsightly cracks.
